YatzySheet: the digital score sheet for the five-dice game

YatzySheet is a digital scoresheet for the classic game played with five dice. The sheet has 13 categories: Ones through Sixes in the upper section, with the bonus from 63 points, and Three of a Kind, Four of a Kind, Full House, Small Straight, Large Straight, Five of a Kind and Chance below. The app replaces the paper pad, adds up for 1 to 6 players, checks the bonus and files every finished game in the history.

Tap a player's category and the score entry opens. In the upper categories, Ones through Sixes, the possible values are offered as buttons, so one tap is enough. In the lower categories you enter the roll or confirm the fixed value. A mistyped number goes away with undo, and a category can also be crossed out deliberately.

Either works. With real dice on the table, YatzySheet is purely a score pad. If there are no dice around, switch on the dice roller in the settings: a shake rolls all five in the app, you get suggestions for the categories worth taking, and the turn passes to the next player once the score is entered.

The upper section is Ones through Sixes. If those add up to 63 points or more, you get 35 bonus points on top. 63 is what you get from three of each number: three ones, three twos, three threes and so on. Landing four of one number leaves room for a weaker row elsewhere. YatzySheet tracks the progress towards the 63-point threshold as you play, so you always see how much is missing.

The first five of a kind is worth 50 points. Every further one adds 50 bonus points, provided the five-of-a-kind bonus is switched on in the settings. The joker rule then applies as well: a further five of a kind counts at full value in Full House and in both straights. Playing without that extra rule simply means leaving the setting off.

Without the five-of-a-kind bonus the maximum is 375 points: 105 in the upper section plus the 35 bonus, then 30 for Three of a Kind, 30 for Four of a Kind, 25 for Full House, 30 for the Small Straight, 40 for the Large Straight, 50 for Five of a Kind and 30 for Chance. With the five-of-a-kind bonus switched on, every further five of a kind adds another 50, and the total is open-ended.

Crossing out enters a zero and closes the category. At the table that happens where a roll yields nothing and no better row is left, often on the Large Straight or on Five of a Kind. In YatzySheet you reach it directly in the score entry, and undo brings back a stroke made too quickly. Since version 3.2 there is one exception: Chance cannot be crossed out. Five dice always add up to at least 5 points, so a zero there would not be a valid entry at all.

The sheet is built for 1 to 6 players. Solo you play against your own best score, and the statistics show your best and average across all games. At the table one device is enough for the whole group: it gets passed around, and everyone enters their roll when their turn comes.

Yes, all finished games are saved automatically in the history. Your results sync across devices via iCloud. You can view the complete scoresheet from the history at any time and get statistics such as win rate, best score and average per player and category.

Version 3.2 added a "Manage players" screen, reached from the history via the person icon. It lists every name with its games and wins. Tap one to rename it, and if you enter a name that already exists, the two are merged into a single player.

The confirmation tells you how many games are involved beforehand. A merge cannot be undone. Spellings that differ only in spacing or capitalisation are tidied up by the app on its own at launch.

Yes. An ongoing game is saved so you can pick it up later right where you left off via the resume card on the home screen. After a game, a single tap starts a rematch, and the starting-player order rotates automatically.

Yes. YatzySheet writes a backup automatically after every finished game and keeps the most recent ones. The files live in your iCloud Drive, so a new device finds them; without iCloud they stay local on the device. In the settings you can create a backup by hand or restore one.

YatzySheet works entirely offline, the internet is only needed for syncing. There is no account with the developer: your games live on your device and in your private iCloud. There are no ads, no tracking, no in-app purchases and no subscription.

The sheet is fully operable with VoiceOver: every field is labelled and read out with its category, player and score. Every button has a name, so the app can also be operated with Voice Control. Text scales with the iOS setting for larger text, dark mode follows the system, and scores, totals and the bonus progress stand out clearly against the background in light and dark appearance.

The player whose turn it is carries a marker before the name, so that does not depend on colour alone. With Reduce Motion switched on, confetti, dice animations and transitions stay calm.

YatzySheet is available in nine languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian. The app follows your device's system language automatically.
